Many people throughout the country will at some stage think about a ‘dream home’ for themselves and their family. Creating a property that is completely customised to suit your needs and requirements is something that many dream of, and there is only one type of company that can help you achieve these goals: a building construction company. Professional builders generally have one aim for their business: to provide their clients with a property that they’ve always dreamed of, and that suits their needs and requirements.

However, not all building contractors are able to provide this service for you… to get the best building services for you and your family, you’ll have to do your research to find the right building company. Looking through the yellow pages to find the right company just won’t cut the mustard anymore, as the advertisements will not be able to tell you what type of company you are looking at. The most ideal way to find the best builders in the area is to look online. Their websites will be able to provide you with much more information the yellow page advertisement ever could; generally, they’ll have a list of their experience, qualifications and memberships.

One membership in particular to watch out for is ‘Members of the Master Builders Association’. Registered Master Builders will ensure that any work they undertake – whether residential or commercial – is backed by the 10 year guarantee. Not only will this give you peace of mind that your building services are backed by a guarantee, but also that you are working with a building contractor who endeavours to meet high standards.    

When it comes to creating that ‘dream home’ you always envisioned, there are two main ways to achieve this – by building a new home or renovating your existing property. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages, and it’ll be up to you and your family to decide which option is most appropriate (and affordable) for you.    

New home building is generally the best option for those who have a high budget or don’t already own an existing property. Depending on what your expectations are, you can choose to either have home plans drawn up by your building contractor, or you can hire the services of an architect to draw up house plans (if you want more than just the ‘standard home’). Either way, your home plans are drawn up not only to get an idea of what your new home will look like, but also the building costs involved. Building new can cost anywhere from a couple of hundred thousand dollars all the way up to a few million dollars – it will entirely depend on what your budget is.

Home renovations, on the other hand, are probably the option to go for if you have a very limited budget, or if you have an existing property. Whether you require complete makeover of one or all of the rooms, or you need more space in the property, home renovations are the way to go. If you have had a new addition to the family, or perhaps your teenagers are now requiring more room, an extra room or storey on your house can create the room you require. Home extensions (also known as home additions) eliminate the need to purchase a new property with more bedrooms than your existing property.
